Pompey have had a busy summer on the transfer front.
With nine new additions added to John Mousinho’s ranks and four players departing to date during the transfer window, the brief given to sporting director Rich Hughes to freshen up the Blues’ first-team ranks has certainly not been ignored.
And with just over two weeks of the summer trading period left to negotiate, there remains plenty of time for the Fratton Park side to continue to reshape their options.
Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to QPR on the opening day of the Championship season highlighted the need for additional work to be done.
Meanwhile, Mousinho has himself said he wants at least another three new signings through the door in order for Pompey to be a more competitive force in English football’s second tier.
Whether or not they are paid-for new additions, loanees or free agents remains to be seen.
The chances of the latter category being explored looks unlikely given the fact that the new EFL season is already a week old.
However, there remains some decent players without clubs who could help Pompey fix some of the problems that were on display against the Rs.
Here’s 10 we picked out who could still make the Blues a stronger force in the Championship.

1. Adam Webster - central defender
The 31-year-old former Pompey defender remains without a club following his departure from Brighton at the end of last season. His experience would prove vital, especially with the Blues conceding six goals in their first two games of the season. | Getty Images

2. Jamie Vardy - striker
The 39-year-old former Leicester striker is available on a free transfer following a year in Italy with Cremonese, where he scored seven goals in 29 appearances. The former England international has been linked with West Ham, Sheffield Wednesday and Sao Paulo. Pompey could add another striker to their ranks following Thomas Waddingham's ankle injury sustained against the Hammer. | Getty Images

3. Jonathan Panzo - centre-back
The much-travelled 25-year-old defender finds himself a free-agent after his short-term deal with Birmingham expired at the end of last season. As a left-footed centre-half, the former Chelsea, Forest and Coventry man would provide much needed competition for Conor Shaughnessy - the only left-footer among the Blues' six centre-backs. | Getty Images

4. Jamie Allen - central midfielder
The former Coventry skipper remains without a club following his CBS Arena departure at the end of last season. The 31-year-old was with the Sky Blues for seven years and made more than 200 appearances for the club. His leadership and experience would prove valuable, although Pompey aren't exactly short of No8s. | Getty Images
