Portsmouth favourite Nicolas Schmid pens new long-term deal at Fratton Park
Pompey make the trip to Derby County on Saturday afternoon, kick starting their festive schedule.
Pompey have tied Nicolas Schmid down to a new long-term deal at Fratton Park.
The popular Austrian, who has featured 10 times for the Blues this term, has penned fresh terms on the south coast until the summer of 2029.
The 28-year-old arrived at Fratton Park in 2024 following the Blues’ promotion to the Championship and has kept 11 clean sheets in 46 appearances in all competitions.
Schmid has emerged as a popular figure in John Mousinho’s squad, cementing himself as number one. Despite Will Norris starting last season between the sticks, the keeper fended off competition, which saw him keep eight clean sheets to help the Blues to a 16th-placed finish on their return to the second tier.
This term, the former BW Linz man has failed to be beaten in three of his 10 league appearances for Pompey, who currently sit one point above the relegation zone ahead of Saturday’s trip to Derby County.
The Austria youth international had missed a large chunk of the season after breaking his hand in the south coast derby against Southampton, but returned to action in November and has started the previous five matches.
Why Pompey favourite penned new Fratton deal

And speaking after signing his new three-and-a-half-year deal on the south coast, Schmid has praised the Fratton faithful for their support during his time at PO4.
He told the Blues’ official club website: ‘It’s an incredible feeling. When I arrived at the beginning of last season, I didn’t expect to receive so much love from the fans.
‘This is an amazing club and I’m really looking forward to the next few years at Pompey. I’m so happy to be here.”
