Portsmouth target Svante Ingelsson closing in on £1m Championship switch as Sheffield Wednesday exit agreed

Pompey target Svante Ingelsson is closing in on a move to the Championship - but it’s not to Fratton Park.

Pompey target Svante Ingelsson is closing in on a seven-figure move to the Championship.

Although John Mousinho’s men did retain an interest heading into the summer, it became increasingly unlikely a move to the south coast would come to fruition.

And it appears Stoke City will be Ingelsson’s next destination after a deal was agreed to make the move to the Bet365 Stadium.

Although the Owls triggered a 12-month extension on his terms at the end of the campaign, the former Hansa Rostock man is closing in on a move to Staffordshire.

Our sister paper, The Star, have reported that Sheffield Wednesday have agreed a deal with Stoke, which is expected to exceed £1m.

The article states the midfielder has already agreed personal terms with Mark Robins’ side and is now poised to complete a switch in the coming days.

It will bring Ingelsson’s two-year Hillsborough stay to a close, where he’s netted two goals and collected five assists in 79 appearances in all competitions.

The Swede was a top target during the January window, with the Blues having a bid rejected for his services.

Mousinho’s troops were looking to bolster the engine room, with Ebou Adams also making the move to Fratton Park in a £500,000 switch from Derby County.

Although there was interest in Ingelsson earlier this summer, Pompey moved on to other targets.

The Blues are once again back in the market in the middle of the park following Andre Dozzell’s departure earlier this summer.

Adams, Marlon Pack and Luke Le Roux are Mousinho’s fit and available options at present, with Mark Kosznovszky still sidelined through injury.
