‘Who are spending what?' Portsmouth, Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United faithful all say same thing as Blues close in on landmark €6m deal

Pompey are closing in on Marko Milovanovic in a landmark €6m deal as their second summer signing.

The Fratton faithful and supporters across the Championship have had their say on social media as Pompey close in UD Almeria striker Marko Milovanovic.

The Blues’ summer recruitment drive is accelerating, with the towering frontman poised to become their second signing of the transfer window.

The News revealed talks were progressing with the Spanish outfit earlier this week ahead of a move before international transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday that a deal had been agreed.

It has been claimed John Mousinho’s men have had a €6m (roughly £5.1m) accepted by the Segunda Division outfit, which also includes a 15 per cent sell-on clause.

The deal represents the highest fee paid for a player since Kevin-Prince Boateng’s £4m switch from Spurs in 2009.

And it’s a significant rise in spending under Michael Eisner and Tornante’s ownership, with the biggest outlay currently a £1.25m deal for Hayden Matthews in January 2025.

With Pompey loosening their purse strings to secure Milanovic this summer, the Blues’ spending has left supporters from across the Championship stunned on social media.

Here’s what fans from across the division and at Fratton Park have been saying on X.

Championship supporters stunned as Pompey close in on statement signing

@CamGpfc: This is why I didn’t (like some) lost the plot after losing out on Graham. The Eisners are showing ambition this season and I am here for it. Milovanovic alone is worth more than our entire transfers the last two summers.

@UncleRonisback: #WatfordFC, Even Portsmouth are buying players for this amount. If Pozzo is unwilling to fund a proper squad out of his own pocket rather than sniffing around the undercarriage of Udinese for whatever he can find then he should put the club up for sale and leave.

@bwfc277: What are we up against this year? I thought Pompey would be an part of the ‘low budget’ teams with us.

@SamMcEwan17: When was the last time we spent £5m?

@07BRFC: WHO is spending €6m on a player??? We are so cooked.

@mfc_noah85: Where have Pompey got 6 million euros from?

@Brooke_Smedley: We are spending real money.

@boltonfan96: Is what it is, can’t lie though jealous seeing clubs spend proper money on players. Mental what we’re up against.

@BenjoPompey: HERE WE GO. John deserves these kinds of funds. Up the Blues.

@NCFCFINLAY15: Pompey have money?

@lostockwander3r: You know when Shuey says “we have a lower budget” this is precisely what he means. We won’t be spending anywhere close to over £5m on one player. The gap between L1 and Champ in terms of finances is a joke. We need a year or two to consolidate.

@AllThingsBlades: Sorry who are spending what????

@Colo_swfc06: My main takeaway from this is where have Portsmouth got 6 million from?

@cuzcuzverde: To give you an idea of what it's like in League One: a club that was battling us against relegation is investing £5 million in a single player—yet we couldn't come anywhere near that figure for any player this season. #lcfc.

@SiMaggioFM: 6 million??? We are spending money now???
