''All sealed now' - Fabrizio Romano claims Portsmouth to sign striker Marko Milovanovic after €6m deal struck
Pompey’s pursuit of Marko Milovanovic has paid off.
Pompey have ‘sealed’ a deal to bring striker Marko Milovanovic to Fratton Park.
All week The News has been reporting how the Blues were closing in on the Serbian striker, who scored 10 goals for Alverca last season while on loan from UD Almeria.
Now transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has entered the picture, with the Italian reporting on Saturday that an agreement has finally been struck with the Spanish outift for the 22-year-old.
According to Romano, a €6m fee (approximately £5.1m) has been accepted by Almeria, who have also negotiated a 15-per-cent sell-on clause. The News also understands that personal terms were never an issue, with the player keen to make the switch to Fratton Park.
If true, the fee will be the biggest Pompey have forked out since their Premier League days. The deal also signals the Blues’ transfer intent this summer, with Rocco Shein also expected to arrive at Fratton Park for a deal in excess of £2m.
The News understands that Pompey tabled an initial bid of £2.5m with a 10 per cent sell-on clause inserted into the agreement, for the man known as Marezi.
That offer was rejected by the Segunda Division outfit, with Almeria initially asking for much more for the 22-year-old.
They were determined to make a profit on the £3m they paid Partizan Belgrade for their player four years ago, which will certainly be the case following news on the dealmPompey have truck with Almeria.
Marezi’s stock is on the rise after a positive campaign spent on loan in the Portuguese top flight with Alverca, with his10 goals coming in 32 appearances.
Alverca were keen to bring the 6ft 4in man back for another season on loan or by acquiring 50 per cent of his rights, according to Marca journalist Antonio Martinez.
But that notion was quickly knocked back by Almeria.
