Portsmouth boss' clear transfer stance as Birmingham City circle for Adrian Segečić
Pompey are bracing themselves for a frenetic climax to the summer transfer window.
Pompey will not sanction any high-profile departures beyond an agreed cut-off point ahead of the transfer window’s climax.
And head coach John Mousinho is optimistic his squad will not be left exposed should any of the Blues’ top assets leave before Tuesday’s deadline.
It’s poised to be a frenetic finale to the summer at Fratton Park, with incomings and outgoings on the cards before the market’s climax.
Chris Davies’ side are keen on recruiting the 22-year-old after an impressive emergence in the Championship following his June 2025 arrival from Sydney FC.
The Croatian is an integral member of Mousinho’s squad, having taken his rich vein of form from last term into this season, where he’s already netted two goals in the opening three matches.
Pompey were in a similar position earlier this year, with Preston North End chasing Callum Lang in the closing stages of the January transfer window.
Pompey boss’ transfer stance ahead of window’s climax
Amid Birmingham’s interest in Segečić, Mousinho revealed there will be a cut-off beyond which none of his most important players will be allowed to depart.
When asked by The News if a pre-deadline day deadline for departures had been set, the head coach said: ‘There will be.
‘Sometimes if you leave it a bit too late then probably deadline day is the one where it gets a bit difficult, particularly with some of the foreign transfers to get through.
‘Jojo (Madiodio Dia) in January, we just managed to get everything done.
‘There are complications that you don’t necessarily have when you sign a player from Brighton or Chelsea’s Premier League 2 group. It’s very, very different.
‘We have to make sure we don’t leave anything too late but I think everybody’s pretty clear on that so I don’t there’ll be any confusion on that.’
Pompey’s late-window business

It’s setting up to be a busy finale to the summer window at Fratton Park as Mousinho looks to put the finishing touches on his Championship plans.
The Blues are looking to recruit at least three new players before deadline day, including a left-back, central midfielder and a versatile attacker.
That could all change, of course, if Segečić was to depart, with the head coach potentially returining the market to strengthen his front-line.
Departures are also required before Tuesday as Mousinho looks to trim his squad, with 33 first-team players currently in his ranks.
Segečić’s future is also under the spotlight amid Birmingham’s late window interest.
