‘What a wonderful midfielder that is’: The exciting verdict over reported Portsmouth target as Blues 'advance'

Pompey are reportedly closing in on a move for Volendam midfielder Gibson Yah.

Pompey have been told they’re getting the complete midfield package if they were to sign Gibson Yah.

That’s according to former Dutch defender and now pundit Hans Kraay Jr, who believes the reported Blues target is a ‘wonderful’ talent.

It’s expected to be a busy summer at Fratton Park as John Mousinho looks to bolster his ranks.

With the window now open, all eyes are potential activity and who the first player could be through the doors at PO4.

Due to De Palingboeren’s relegation from the Eredivisie last term, the Dutch youth international will be allowed to depart midway through his two-year deal.

But his displays weren’t enough to keep Rick Kruys’ men in the division as they fell to defeat in a two-legged promotion/relegation play-off head-to-head against Willem II.

It is likely Yah has played his final game for Volendam, with their relegation allowing him to depart for free. And Fratton Park is expected to be his next destination - if the rumours prove to be correct.

Exciting verdict over reported Pompey target

Despite De Palingboeren’s defeat to Willem II, the young midfielder impressed in the engine room, with his first-leg showing picked up by Kraay Jr.

The former Brighton defender detailed the exciting traits Yah possesses and was blown away by his performance.

Speaking to Dutch media in May, he said: ‘Today you really think: wow, what a wonderful midfielder that is.

‘If you are sitting in the stands today for another team and you see him… Intercepting balls without making sliding tackles, he reads the game well too, he has decent acceleration, he has a cross pass. If only they had someone like that at Willem II.

‘He often has some minor aches and pains, and that is very unfortunate for this Sangaré of Volendam.’

Pompey are in the market for a new midfielder this summer following the departure of Andre Dozzell.

It means Ebou Adams, Marlon Pack and Luke Le Roux are Mousinho’s specialist options at present due to Mark Kosznovszky long-term knee injury.

The Hungarian is expected to be sidelined until the end of the year after suffering ACL and MCL damage against Charlton Athletic in December.

The head coach did utilise John Swift in the middle of the park at times last term, although the 30-year-old’s preferred position is in the number 10 role.
