Portsmouth transfer gossip: Blues in 'advanced talks' to sign former Ajax midfielder from Volendam
Pompey are being linked with a raid on recently relegated Eredivisie side FC Volendam this summer
Pompey are reportedly in advanced talks with a player to bolster their midfield ranks.
FC Volendam midfielder Gibson Yah is apparently in deep negotiations with the Blues just two days before the summer transfer window officially opens for business on Monday.
Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke claims a free transfer move for the 22-year-old defensive midfielder is on the cards as Pompey look to take advantage of the relegation release clause that was inserted in the player’s contract following his move from Utrecht a year ago.
Volendam were relegated from the Eredivisie after finishing 16th in the table and losing their two-legged promotion/relegation play-off head-to-head against Willem II.
Yah featured 24 times for Rick Kruys’s side last season as their two-year stay in the Dutch top flight was brought to an end.
But just like Kruys, who has since been sacked, it looks like the midfielder won’t be sticking around to experience life in the Eerste Divisie - if the rumour is true.
Yah has a year remaining on his Volendam contract, but is widely expected to leave the Kras Stadion outfit for nothing this summer.
According to O’Rourke, Fratton Park could well be the next port of call for the Netherlands youth international, who was at the renowned Ajax Academy during his teenage years.
Pompey are on the lookout for midfield reinforcements ahead of their third season in the Championship.
Key player Andre Dozzell has left the Blues to join MLS Eastern Conference side DC United on a free transfer. And with Mark Kosznovsky out until the end of the year with a new injury, Ebou Adams, Marlon Pack and Luke Le Roux are the only specialist midfielder’s currently in John Mousinho’s ranks.
