Swansea City boss makes key transfer admission over £2m former Portsmouth loanee after failed Fratton stay

Florian Bianchini registered one assist in 11 appearances during a failed loan stint with Pompey last season.

Vitor Matos has reiterated Florian Bianchini’s future lies away from Swansea City this summer.

And the head coach has explained the reasons behind the winger’s involvement with the Swans’ under-21s in the opening weeks of the campaign.

The 25-year-old’s future in south Wales was plunged into uncertainty after a hugely disappointing loan stay at Fratton Park last term.

After signing for Pompey in July 2025 on a season-long agreement, Bianchini featured 11 times in the Blues’ opening 18 matches in all competitions.

However, the Frenchman would later endure a four-month spell on the sidelines due to problematic knee issue, with his final outing for Pompey coming in a 3-0 defeat to Sheffield United in November.

The attacker would be named on the bench just two further times for John Mousinho’s side and registered just one assist during his underwhelming stint on the south coast.

And his future has been plunged into further uncertainty, having been left out of the Swans’ opening three matches of the new season - instead appearing for the under-21s in the Premier League Cup and Premier League Professional Development League.

Indeed, Matos has admitted his side will not stand in the winger’s way of a possible departure before the window’s closure on September 1.

In fact, the head coach suggested Swansea and Bianchini could even part ways by mutual agreement if a move doesn’t come to fruition - just two years after his £2m switch from Amiens.

Speaking to BBC Radio Wales, he said: ‘Still the same situation. All the parts regarding him it’s about finding the best solution. Florian is still with us and he needs that game exposure so that’s why he’s with the under-21s.

‘At the moment, that’s the plan. I think it is important for him to find a place where he feels the value of his football. I think things will be more clear when the window is closed.

‘Then we see what happens and if he leaves the club. If that doesn't happen, then we need to speak and see what is the best.’

Pompey have been active in the forward department during the summer as Mousinho looked to rectify his side’s goalscoring issues from last term.

In addition, Ryan Kavuma-McQueen was also recruited on a season-long loan from Chelsea on the eve of the new Championship campaign and netted in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Lincoln City.

Keshi Anderson (quad), Franco Umeh (hamstring) are both long-term absentees, while Harvey Blair, who could depart before the end of the window, has missed the opening three matches with a hip issue.

Josh Murphy felt his groin against Lincoln last weekend, with the wait now on to discover the severity of the setback.
