'It’s his time to go. Gutted. Get a decent fee': Portsmouth verdict on huge favourite's future amid growing Sheffield Wednesday interest

Pompey favourite Colby Bishop is reportedly on Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer radar this summer.

The Fratton faithful have been torn on Colby Bishop as news of League One interest grows.

Our sister paper, The Sheffield Star, have claimed Sheffield Wednesday are ‘eyeing’ a swoop for the striker as they begin a new life in League One under new ownership.

Following a takeover by American businessman David Storch earlier this year, the Owls are planning a squad overhaul this summer in a bid to launch an instant return to the Championship.

The Magic Man netted just four times in all competitions as his impressive goalscoring form deserted him.

The popular frontman, who arrived from Accrington Stanley for £500,000 in 2022, has, though, top scored in three of his four campaigns at Fratton Park, scoring 60 goals in 175 outings.

Bishop still has two years to run on his current terms after penning fresh terms in February 2025, ensuring there will be no cut-price deal should the Blues decide to cash in.

Following news of interest from Sheffield Wednesday growing, the Fratton faithful have taken to X, formerly Twitter, to discuss the striker’s future.

And it’s a topic which has prompted plenty of talk from supporters as Mousinho’s side look to progress in the Championship next term.

Here’s the best of the reaction.

Torn Pompey verdict on Colby Bishop’s future amid growing Sheffield Wednesday interest

@HarvMarksy: It all makes a bit more sense now…this one would be a real sad one. Absolutely top for us. Love him to pieces but time he gets slowly fazed out at the level we need to get to. Be a great move for him but would hurt.

@pompeyawayman: He needs supply. Isolation helps no striker. He had a poor season obviously, but he still has credit. And leads the line superbly.

@InnocentOnX: Modern day Pompey legend but I feel it’s his time to go. What a player he’s been and what a signing this would be for Wednesday.

@pfclowey: From a football POV this makes sense to sell, on a personal level will be a little gutted.

@Brooke_Smedley: A sad one but also a harsh reality of us showing a statement of improvement A 20+ goalscorer in League One in today’s market is surely a £1.5m - £2m valuation which I think would be fair for all parties.

@SteveoLarham: Sometimes there's no room for sentiment in football. If we're looking to improve at least get our money back and invest in two front line forwards (probably explains why we're still interested in Pepple).

@BenjoPompey: Love the man. Love him to stay as second choice next season. He struggled because we had no one second choice pushing him. He won’t want to be second choice so would be a good move for him and his family, big club, good fans, £1.5m a good deal for both clubs.

@dazza_nics: Would genuinely be sad if this happens as I love the bloke & I think with another genuine starter CF giving him some real competition, we will be a better side for it. We all know how football works though. Would need two top CFs if he does go!

@BluesPfc_: A really pivotal player for the club the last three years and definitely a fan favourite. Unfortunately to move forward and up the table can’t get to sentimental about players moving on if Marezi comes in for the money rumoured can imagine he won’t get much game time.

@DMC1898: Think this move would be a good one for him, being one of his biggest fans of Colby other than the Gaffer last season, this would hurt but would suit all parties , get a decent fee in the bank for him as still under contract for another two years I think…

@ChrisTheLewis: I mean… for a fairly high price I could see it.

@KennySc80105312: Would be a shame, but makes perfect sense. If we get these striker in he wants I do not believe Colby will get a look in.
