Portsmouth boss breaks own rule with intriguing transfer admission over Hull City winger Abu Kamara
An intriguing transfer admission from Pompey boss John Mousinho over the chances of re-signing Hull City Abu Kamara this summer.
John Mousinho has joked Pompey have looked to sign Abu Kamara in every window since his brilliant Fratton Park loan spell.
And while the head coach remained coy about his side’s current chances at bringing the 23-year-old back to PO4, he admitted the Blues are looking to recruit a winger similar to his profile this summer.
A homecoming for the League One title winner is on the cards in the window, with the football operations at Fratton Park quietly confident of seeing through a deal.

The Blues, of course, looked to bring the England youth international back to PO4 on a permanent basis following the conclusion of his brilliant season-long loan, where he netted 10 goals and collected 11 assists.
However, Hull City flexed their financial muscle to secure the ex-Norwich City man on a four-year deal in a £3.5m agreement, which also included £1m in add-ons.
But with Kamara down the pecking order at the MKM Stadium following the Tigers’ Premier League promotion, sporting director Rich Hughes publicly stated in July that Pompey would be interested in re-uniting with the winger this summer.
The fresh prospect of re-signing Kamara has since left fans on tenterhooks, with supporters eager to see the forward complete his much-anticipated Fratton return.
Pompey boss’ intriguing Abu Kamara transfer admission
Indeed, Mousinho was asked about the chances of bringing the forward back to PO4 in Monday’s fans’ forum.
And although the Blues boss initially opted against commenting on players from other teams, when pushed, the head coach joked his side have tried to sign Kamara in every window since his 2024 departure.
Speaking on BBC Radio Solent’s fans’ forum on Monday evening, he said: ‘My answer’s going to be the same, boring. Both of those players (Abu Kamara and Jesper Ceesay) belong to other clubs so I won’t comment on them unfortunately.’
‘We try and sign him (Kamara) every window,’ Mousinho then joked when pushed for an answer by host Andy Moon.
‘In January we couldn’t because he played for Getafe and Hull, previous January he’d played for Norwich and Hull so the summer window is always a nice opportunity to try and sign him. So who knows.’
Pompey in winger market this summer

Pompey are looking to strengthen their arsenal in the Championship this summer after an underwhelming campaign in front of goal.
Mousinho is currently without Josh Murphy, Keshi Anderson and Franco Umeh, who are all expected to miss Saturday’s curtain raiser against West Ham, while Harvey Blair remains a doubt for the trip to the London Stadium with a fresh hip issue.
While injuries continue to affect their wide options, Mousinho is also hoping to bolster his attacking options to address their goalscoring problems.
And without specifically naming Kamara, the head coach admitted the Blues are looking to recruit wingers who fit that type of profile.
‘One thing that we do want to do and we’ve been focused on that in terms of the recruitment and without giving anything away in my answer to your first question.
‘We have been looking to bring in those profiles of wingers and make sure we’re really bolstered in those areas because we do like to play outside other opposition shapes, getting the ball out wide and into the box, do that quickly and get it into the centre forward who’s aggressive.
‘So I think it’s a big part of the playing style we need to improve as well because across the board we’ve acknowledged to we need to score more goals and do it in a different way.’
