'This week' - Portsmouth faithful told when they can expect Jesper Ceesay to become club's seventh signing

Jesper Ceesay could be a Pompey player before the Blues face West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Saturday

Jesper Ceesay could be a Pompey player by the end of the week, barring any extraordinary circumstances.

That’s the prediction being made by respected Turkish journalist Koray Geçgel, who has been spot on with his updates on the move ever since the Blues’ interest in the defensive midfielder emerged.

According to Geçgel, issues around a payment that had a deal for the Gambia international at a ‘standstill’ two weeks ago have now been resolved.

Pompey will pay Ceesay’s current club Antalyaspor an initial upfront payment of €500,000, with a further €300,000 paid in installments.

The recently relegated Süper Lig side have also negotiated a 15-percent sell-on clause, which they expect to bring the overall figure to more than €1m over time.

All terms of the deal have also been accepted by Ceesay, who is now set to sign his contract with Pompey this week.

Speaking on the latest episode of 7 Numara on Youtube, Geçgel said: ‘We previously stated that unless there was a big surprise, Ceesay was going to Portsmouth and the transfer fee was set. The clubs have now given their approvals and Ceesay has approved the transfer.

‘Within this week, I definitely expect Ceesay to go to Portsmouth.

‘Of course, as I always express on these programmes, I don’t like to say a deal is done until the signature is officially signed. But unless an extraordinary situation occurs this week, they will put the shirt of Portsmouth on Ceesay.

‘An upfront payment of €500,000 will be given to Antalyaspor. This money will be transferred in cash. Another €300,000 will enter Antalyaspor’s safe in scheduled installments.

‘So, in total, alongside this, there is a 15-percent share on a future sale. This means around €800,000 will enter Antalyaspor’s safe for now.

‘Of course, with the share they can get from a future sale, this figure could exceed €1m in the future.

‘Antalyaspor had already adopted a strategy entirely based on selling Ceesay anyway.

‘We can say that this strategy has now reached its conclusion.

‘I expect him to sign the official contract with Portsmouth within this week.’

Former Norrkoping midfielder Ceesay has been with Antalyaspor since last summer, with the 24-year-old featuring 31 times in the league in 2025-26 as he and his team-mates suffered relegation from the Süper Lig.

His impending move to Fratton Park will see him become Pompey’s second central midfield signing during the current transfer window following Rocco Shein’s arrival last month.

To accommodate Ceesay, the Blues have told Luke Le Roux he is free to leave.

Reports on Monday claimed the South African had options in both Sweden and Belgium.
