Portsmouth and Charlton Athletic target Abu Kamara sustains injury concern during Hull City pre-season friendly

Pompey remain on course to bring Abu Kamara back this summer, but the winger has sustained a small knock during pre-season with Hull City.

Abu Kamara has sustained a minor injury issue during Hull City’s pre-season.

But the setback isn’t expected to keep the winger sidelined for long and is poised to feature in Sunday’s friendly against Turkish side Kasimpasa.

The in-demand 23-year-old, who is wanted at Fratton Park this summer, was surprisingly withdrawn at the break during the Tigers’ 2-1 victory over Rizespor earlier this week.

Pompey target sustains minor injury issue during Hull friendly

This prompted fresh fears over a potential setback for Kamara, who has been an ever-present figure in Sergej Jakirovic’s side during pre-season so far.

News of the injury concern comes as Pompey look to reunite with the League One title winner.

Kamara is set to depart the MKM Stadium during the window having fallen down Jakirovic’s attacking ranks in the north east.

Despite this, the winger is still expected to feature for the Tigers this weekend as they wrap up their 12-day training camp in Slovenia and Turkey.

And although the forward sustained a minor injury setback this week, assistant manager Dean Holden has allayed any serious concerns for the in-demand Pompey target.

He told the Hull Daily Mail: ‘Abu was always going to play 45 minutes (against Rizespor). He picked up a little knock but just spoke to him briefly in the dressing room, and he said he seems OK.’

Pompey remain on course to bring Kamara back to Fratton Park this summer - two years after his loan exit.

The winger, of course, enjoyed a hugely-successful stint on the south coast during the Blues’ 2023-24 League One title success.

The former Norwich City man netted 10 goals and amassed 11 assists in all competitions, playing a key role in their long-awaited Championship return.

Pompey, though, were prized out of a permanent move for Kamara that summer, with Hull flexing their spending power to land the attacker in a £3.5m deal, which includes a further £1m in add ons.

The Carrow Road youth product has failed to eclipse the form seen during his PO4 loan and has netted just five goals in 40 outings at the MKM Stadium.

The Tigers, though, look set to cash in on the forward just two years into his four year deal, with Mousinho’s men confident in finally securing the title winner.

There are obstacles to overcome to see another sizable deal to fruition but the Blues are hopeful of being able to land Kamara on a permanent basis.
