Former Portsmouth and Bradford City man on move again with League One club looking to offer career lifeline

Tom McIntyre registered 14 appearances for Pompey during a two-year stay at Fratton Park before joining Aberdeen in February.

Tom McIntyre’s career is in limbo once again after suffering a fresh blow with Aberdeen.

However, the 27-year-old endured a frustrating injury-hit stint with the Dons, who finished eighth in the Scottish Premiership.

But with his short-term contract coming to a close following the campaign’s climax, the ex-Bradford City man won’t be offered a new deal with Aberdeen, according to reports north of the border.

The Press and Journal have revealed the defender has no future with the Dons, who have opted against extending his stay on the Scottish east coast.

This will now see McIntyre begin his search for his fourth club in 12 months after Pompey mutually terminated his agreement in February.

The League One title winner is said to have some interest from the EFL, however, with Reading reportedly keen to offer the Select Car Leasing Stadium academy graduate a career revival.

That’s according to the Reading Chronicle, who claimed the Royals are ‘monitoring’ the 27-year-old ahead of a possible homecoming in the transfer window.

McIntyre, of course, rose through the ranks with the Berkshire outfit and registered 117 first-team outings following his debut in 2018.

The centre-back went on to make a move to PO4 in January 2024 to boost Pompey’s League One promotion bid, signing for a reported £75,000.

The former Scotland youth international suffered a season-ending ankle injury on debut before returning the following campaign to aid Mousinho’s backline in the Championship.

McIntyre went on to total 14 outings for the Blues before being told he had no future last summer and wasn’t handed a squad number before the start of the campaign.

Despite Pompey requiring addition numbers at the heart of the backline, Mousinho opted to utilise Connor Ogilvie as a make-shift option alongside Regan Poole amid injuries to Josh Knight, Hayden Matthews and Conor Shaughnessy.

McIntyre’s Fratton deal was mutually terminated on deadline day in the January transfer window and departed on a permanent basis with six-months left of his terms.
