After a busy summer in the transfer market, seven of the Blues’ nine arrivals featured at Fratton Park, including starts for Rocco Shein, Abu Kamara and Luke Brooke-Smith.
John Mousinho’s new-look outfit took the lead early on when Terry Devlin fired in from 25 yards to open his account for the campaign.
But Julien Stephan’s side responded in quick succession, with an Ilias Chair double separated by a Koki Saito goal before the break.
The Blues were unable to find a way back in the second half and subsequently fell to their first opening day defeat since August 2019.
It is still very-much early days, however, but Mousinho is now targeting further additions in the window and a response against newly-promoted Lincoln City next Saturday.
