Portsmouth boss John Mousinho provides intriguing transfer update amid links to Brighton midfielder Andrew Moran

Pompey currently sit 21st in the Championship standings after Thursday’s 5-0 thrashing against Bristol City.

John Mousinho has admitted he is hoping to have the majority of Pompey’s transfer business complete before their trip to Sheffield Wednesday on January 17.

And the head coach has responded to talk over Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Andrew Moran, who was linked with a move to Fratton Park on New Year’s Eve.

The January market is underway and it’s expected to be busy on the south coast as the Blues look to strengthen ahead of a vitally-important survival battle in the second half of the campaign.

Mousinho’s men currently occupy 21st position in the Championship after their New Year’s Day thrashing to Bristol City, which brought an end to their four-game unbeaten run.

The head coach has previously revealed the positions he wishes to strengthen in the window, with a left-back, right-winger and more on his shopping list.

Between 3-6 new faces have been potentially touted to arrive before deadline day on February 2 as the football operations at Fratton Park eye major improvements after a disappointing start to the campaign.

John Mousinho provides Pompey transfer update

Although it is poised to be busy on the south coast over the next month, Mousinho isn’t expecting any imminent incomings before Sunday’s Championship contest against Ipswich Town.

However, the head coach is hoping to have large parts of his business completed before their trip to Sheffield Wednesday in less than three weeks time.

‘I don’t think we’ll get any before the Ipswich game,’ the Blues boss told BBC Radio Solent after Thursday's loss to Bristol City.

‘I think the majority of the business we’ll have by the time we go and face Sheffield Wednesday.

‘But it’s another window we have to be patient and make sure we bring in the right players at the right time.’

The January window has been open for just over a day, but gossip and speculation is already rife, with Pompey already being tipped with a potential loan deal.

The 22-year-old recently returned to the AMEX Stadium after a stint with LAFC in the MLS, which saw him register 10 outings during the first half of the campaign.

The Irishman has also spent time in the Championship with respective stints at Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City over the past two seasons.

However, when asked whether there was any truth in the rumour, Mousinho opted against commenting on the online speculation.

The head coach added: ‘Again, no comment on that as he’s a player that plays for another club.’
