Huge Portsmouth milestone hit in latest show of force by Fratton faithful

Pompey supporters have snapped up more than 13,800 season tickets ahead of the new campaign.

The Fratton faithful have once again showcased their unconditional love for Pompey ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign.

The Blues are readying themselves for their third-successive season in the second-tier after securing an 18th-placed finish last term.

Despite potential relegation fears, John Mousinho’s troops enjoyed a brilliant run-in, which saw them lose just one of their final eight matches to climb eight-points clear of the bottom three.

It’s already been a busy close-season on the south coast, with the the head coach’s future under the spotlight amid interest from Bristol City and Stoke City.

In the meantime, though, supporters have wasted no time in snapping up season tickets ahead of the new campaign, which is slowly appearing on the horizon.

In their latest update prior to Wednesday’s 4pm deadline, the Blues confirmed more than 13,800 members of the Fratton faithful have renewed their seats for the coming season.

That is another incredible achievement by fans, with season tickets, of course, capped at 15,000.

Although Pompey have yet to release a final number on renewals, any unsold seats will be released to supporters currently on the 3,000-strong waiting list.

The club have confirmed sales windows will be announced in due course, while the seat-moving period will be open between June 19 and June 20.

The chief executive said: ‘We’re on a par with last year’s rate of sale - we’re very grateful for everyone’s who renewed to date.

‘We had 3,000 people on the waiting list who will take up any slack.

‘Each year you will get into that waiting list, because there will be a number of season ticket holders who, for various reasons, don’t continue.

‘There will be an opportunity for those on the waiting list to have some, but there will be people left there judging by the current rate of sale compared to last year.

‘You always see an immediate spike when they go on the sale and a spike in the last week.

‘So it’s important to track. We launched at roughly the same time last year, so we’re able to see year-on-year rates and we can see we’re where we were last year.’
