Championship rivals plot £800,000 move for former Portsmouth-linked talent as Millwall face £15m battle for Ipswich Town target

The latest transfer headlines involving Pompey’s Championship rivals.

All eyes are firmly on the upcoming transfer window, which gets underway in less than a month’s time.

There’s plenty to be done in the meantime, with John Mousinho’s Fratton Park future still up in the air as interest in the head coach continues to grow.

Although uncertainty still remains over Mousinho’s future, it’s still business as usual behind the scenes at PO4 as preparations continue ahead of what’s expected to be a busy summer.

As business heats up at Fratton Park, gossip and speculation is still doing the rounds across the Championship as the Blues’ rivals continue their planning for next term.

Here are the latest transfer headlines around the second tier.

Championship new-boys lead race for ex-Pompey linked man

The race to sign Reading sensation Charlie Savage is hotting up as clubs across the Championship battle to land the midfielder for a cut-price fee.

The 23-year-old, who has been previously linked with a switch to Fratton Park on several occasions, is reportedly on the radar of Lincoln City, Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers.

League One outfit Sheffield Wednesday are also said to be interested in the midfielder, who is entering the final 12 months of his current Royals terms.

The Reading Chronicle have revealed Cardiff are leading the pursuit at present, with the ex-Manchester United man expected to be available for £800,000 in the transfer window.

Savage has spent three years at The Select Car Leasing Stadium, where he’s scored 14 goals and collected 20 assists in 141 outings in all competitions.

The two-time Wales international has been linked with Pompey on a number of occasions in recent windows, although any move was promptly rubbished.

But strong interest in the young playmaker is heating up, with the Blues’ Championship rivals looking to pounce.

Newly-promoted Ipswich Town are reportedly looking to reignite their interest in Millwall’s Femi Azeez this summer.

That’s according to transfer guru Alan Nixon, who has claimed Kieran McKenna’s men are eyeing a £15m to £20m move for the 24-year-old in the transfer window.

It is believed the Tractor Boys, who secured an instant return to the Premier League on the final day, are hoping to get a deal done quickly as they prepare for life back in the top flight.

Ipswich had a number of bids rebuffed by the Lions in the January window for the winger, who was influential in a third-placed finish for Alex Neil’s side.

Azeez netted 11 goals and provided eight assists in 35 Championship outings this term - but was kept at bay during Pompey’s 3-1 triumph at The Den in February.

But after Millwall suffered play-off heartbreak, the south London outfit now face a huge battle to keep their star forward beyond the summer, with the Tractor Boys looming.
