Portsmouth rivals plotting move for highly-rated midfielder as Stoke City close in on £3.8m signing

The latest transfer headlines involving Pompey’s Championship rivals.

There are less than four days to go until the transfer window opens for business.

It’s expected to be a busy summer at Fratton Park as John Mousinho looks to strengthen ahead of Pompey’s third-successive Championship campaign.

The Blues have already secured the future of Marlon Pack, who extended his stay for a further 12 months in May, while the Blues also offered new deals to Connor Ogilvie and Zak Swanson.

In terms of incomings, 11 names have so far been linked with a move to PO4 ahead of the window, with Stockport County winger Jack Diamond the latest.

While transfer gossip heats up at Fratton Park, rumours and speculation are doing the rounds across the division as planning continues ahead of a busy summer.

Here are the latest transfer headlines involving the Blues’ second-tier rivals.

Trio tracking sensation

Wrexham, Birmingham City and Sheffield United are all reportedly eyeing a move for Rapid Vienna talent Romeo Amane.

The Championship trio are believed to have set their sights on the highly-rated midfielder, who flourished in the Austrian Bundesliga last term.

The 23-year-old collected five goal contributions in all competitions and is expected to attract interest from across Europe as his standing in the game grows.

Football Insider have claimed Pompey’s rivals all have Amane on their radar as they look to bolster their engine rooms with Europa Conference League experience.

The holding midfielder has enjoyed a positive 18-month stay at the Allianz Stadion, where he’s totalled 62 outings since his January 2025 move from BK Hacken.

The trio of sides, however, will need to pay a substantial fee to secure the promising talent, who still has three years to run on his current terms with Rapid Vienna.

Stoke City have reportedly won the race to sign Braga midfielder Djibril Soumare, according to reports.

French news outlet Onze Mondial have claimed the Potters are closing in on the 23-year-old, having fended off European interest.

The Senegal international, who spent last term on loan with Championship rivals Sheffield United, was on the radar of Ligue 1 trio Lille, Toulouse and Strasbourg.

But the fresh report has suggested Stoke have secured an agreement for Soumare’s service, with Pompey’s fellow Championship side believed to be paying £3.8m

The left-footed midfielder is expected to pen a three-year deal at the bet365 Stadium, bringing an end to a five-year stay affiliation with Braga.

During his season-long loan at Bramall Lane, Soumare registered 25 league outings for Chris Wilder’s side, which included outings in both of Sheffield United’s triumphs over Pompey last term.
