Portsmouth and Lincoln linked with former Sunderland winger Jack Diamond after 13 G/As in League One last season

Pompey’s search for a new winger has seen them linked with a move for Stockport County winger Jack Diamond

Pompey are being credited with an interest in a winger who has history of being linked with a move to Fratton Park.

It was a link refuted by Pompey boss at the time, Danny Cowley, who was on hand to see the attacker knock the Blues out of the second round of the 2020-21 FA Cup for loan club Harrogate.

Now, four years on from that inititial reported interest, Diamond has once again apparently appeared on the Fratton Park side’s transfer radar.

According to Football Insider, the Blues are keen on the right-sided wideman who registered six goals and seven assists for Stockport County last season as the Stags finished third in the League One table and missed out on promotion to the Championship in the play-off final.

That took the former Sunderland player’s goals and assists tally to 25 during the two seasons the 26-year-old has spent at Edgeley Park.

But with the player entering the final 12 months of his current Stockport deal, it’s claimed they could sanction a sale during this summer’s transfer window rather than risk losing him for nothing next year.

Back in January, Luton saw a £1m deadline-day bid for the winger rejected by the Stags as they looked to secure a top-two finish and secure a place in next season’s second tier.

Pompey aren’t the only team supposedly interested in Diamond, though. Football Insider also report that Championship new-boys Lincoln City are also keen.

The player spent a season on loan at Sincil Bank in 2022-23, registering eight goals and five assists in 36 appearances.

In January 2024, Diamond was cleared of raping and sexually assaulting a woman he had met on a dating app.
