Gutsy Pompey secured a point at Charlton in which they excelled defensively.
Conor Shaughnessy, Benjy Arthur and Jayden Meghoma stood out as John Mousinho’s men collected successive clean sheets after leaving The Valley with a goalless draw.
Adrian Segecic had a late chance and Colby Bishop was agonisingly short of connecting with a Ryan Kavuma-McQueen cross, but the Blues never really looked like scoring.
Instead they were indebt to their defenders throughout, plus an improbably Milli Alli miss.
And here are our Pompey player ratings...
1. during the EFL Championship match between Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth at The Valley Stadium, London, England on 12th September 2026
Pompey and Charlton shared a goalless draw at The Valley. Picture: Jason Brown | Jason Brown
2. Daniel Bielica - 7
Still a little concern when he has the ball at his feet. Risky drag back early on followed by a pass straight to Campbell, but recovered composure. Good save with his legs from Grant. | Jason Brown
3. Terry Devlin - 7
(Replaced by Regan Poole on 85 mins) - Had his hands full trying to handle the impressive Campbell, but largely coped well. Not started the season particularly well, but a better performance from the Northern Ireland international. | Jason Brown
4. Conor Shaughnessy - 9 - Man Of The Match
Towering centre-half performance from the Irishman, forging a superb partnership with Arthur. Got his head - and foot - onto everything amid some tough periods for the Blues. | Jason Brown
