Pompey welcome Charlton Athletic to Fratton Park tonight looking for their first home win against the Addicks since April 2005.
Since then, both teams have contested eight games at PO4, with the visitors running out winners on seven of those occasions.
The 2-2 draw that was played out during Pompey’s League One title-winning season (2023-24) broke that seven-match losing streak.
Now John Mousinho’s side will be looking to go one better than that and secure a much-needed Fratton Park win against Charlton - not just to improve their recent record against the south London outfit but also to boost their position in the current Championship standings.
Despite being on a three-match unbeaten run, the Blues go into tonight’s game third from bottom in the table and in desperate need of points that will help them climb the standings.
The same was said of Pompey back in April 2005, with new manager Alain Perrin - who was taking charge of the Blues for the first time - tasked with getting the club out of relegation trouble in the then Premiership.
Yet he and the team that day rose to the challenge, with Yakubu, Steve Stone, substitute Diomansy Kamara and Lomana LuaLua all on the mark as the home side recorded a 4-2 win and their first top-flight victory in seven attempts.
It helped the Blues finish 16th in the table that season and six points clear of the relegation zone.
No doubt, Pompey would snap your hand off at a similar scenario at the end of the current campaign.
In the meantime, though, he’s the Blues team that started that 2005 game against Charlton and where they are now, more than 20 years on from that match.

9. Midfield: Richard Hughes
The Charlton game was one of just 13 starts handed to Hughes that season as he failed to establish himself as a first-team regular. The Scot, though, would accumulate 165 appearances for Pompey during his nine-year stay at the club, which came to an end in 2011. 10. Forward: Steve Stone
The former winger's goal against Charlton that day was one of only three he scored for Pompey that season. Like some of his then team-mates, that Addicks game was one of the last Stone would play for Pompey, with a move to Leeds United arriving in the summer of 2005. Now 54, Stone has held coaching jobs at Newcastle, Burnley, Everton and Nottingham Forest, where he is currently part of Sean Dyche's coaching set-up. | Getty Images

11. Forward: Yakubu Aiyegbeni
Yakubu's goal against Charlton that day was his 15th of the season in all competitions, with the Nigerian international finishing the campaign as the Blues' top scorer with 17. It followed 19 goals for Pompey the previous season, and prompted Middlesbrough to pay £7.5m for the striker in the summer of 2005. Following his retirement in 2017, Yakubu, 43, works primarily as a football agent and mentor. | Getty Images

12. Forward: Lomana LuaLua
The Dr Congo international's goal v Charlton was one of six he scored for the Blues that season and came immediately after he netted in the 3-1 defeat at Fulham a week earlier. Now 45, he's currently an attacking coach at Spalding FC. | Getty Images
