Pompey welcome Charlton Athletic to Fratton Park tonight looking for their first home win against the Addicks since April 2005.
Since then, both teams have contested eight games at PO4, with the visitors running out winners on seven of those occasions.
The 2-2 draw that was played out during Pompey’s League One title-winning season (2023-24) broke that seven-match losing streak.
Now John Mousinho’s side will be looking to go one better than that and secure a much-needed Fratton Park win against Charlton - not just to improve their recent record against the south London outfit but also to boost their position in the current Championship standings.
Despite being on a three-match unbeaten run, the Blues go into tonight’s game third from bottom in the table and in desperate need of points that will help them climb the standings.
The same was said of Pompey back in April 2005, with new manager Alain Perrin - who was taking charge of the Blues for the first time - tasked with getting the club out of relegation trouble in the then Premiership.
Yet he and the team that day rose to the challenge, with Yakubu, Steve Stone, substitute Diomansy Kamara and Lomana LuaLua all on the mark as the home side recorded a 4-2 win and their first top-flight victory in seven attempts.
It helped the Blues finish 16th in the table that season and six points clear of the relegation zone.
No doubt, Pompey would snap your hand off at a similar scenario at the end of the current campaign.
In the meantime, though, he’s the Blues team that started that 2005 game against Charlton and where they are now, more than 20 years on from that match.

5. Defender: Aliou Cisse
The Senegal international arrived at Pompey in the summer of 2004 following his £300,000 move from Birmingham. The Charlton game was his 25 appearance for that season. But the following year he would only feature three times, leading to his Fratton Park departure in 2006. Now 49, Cisse is the head coach of the Libya national team. | AFP via Getty Images

6. Midfield: Giannis Skopelitis
Signed from Greek minnows Egaleo FC by Velimir Zajec, the midfielder made 13 appearances for Pompey over the second half of the 2004-05 season. Yet he was only a bit-part player the season that followed and was allowed to return to Egaleo in January 2006 by the returning Harry Redknapp. Skopelitis retired from playing in 2018. | Getty Images

7. Midfield: Patrik Berger
The former attacker would play just three more times for Pompey following the win against Charlton, with the Czech international moving to Aston Villa that summer after 60 appearances for the Blues. 8. Midfield: Matt Taylor
The popular left-side player featured 36 times for the Blues that season and was a key player as Pompey finished 16th. Following his retirement from playing in 2019, the 44-year-old has held several managerial positions, including jobs at Walsall, Shrewsbury, Wealdstone and Solihull Moors, who he left in September 2025. | Getty Images
