Portsmouth’s Championship rivals in hot water after concerning financial update emerges
There has been some concerning news from one of Portsmouth’s Championship rivals.
One of Portsmouth’s Championship rivals has been forced to apologise to part-time and full-time staff after they were informed they would not receive their wages for December before the festive period.
Leicester City’s fall from shock Premier League champions and FA Cup winners to a dismal relegation from the top flight and difficulty adjusting to life back in the Championship has been widely reported in recent months and owners the King Power group has come under increasing criticism as the situation goes from the bad to worse.
On the field, the Foxes are currently sitting three points adrift of the play-off places as they look to recover from last season’s relegation from the Premier League. A visit to head coach Marti Cifuentes’ former club Queens Park Rangers comes on Saturday before a home double header against Watford and Derby County before the turn of the year. However, the picture behind the scenes appears to be one of major discontent and the latest developments will only increase the anger and frustration being felt by staff and supporters.
The Daily Mail have reported an email sent on Thursday has informed Foxes staff they will not be paid before Christmas after their pay date was brought forward from the final working day of December to allow for wages to be paid in time for the festive period.
The report quotes an email believed to be from interim managing director Kamonthip Netthanomsak, who apologised for the inability to pay staff and for being ‘unable to relay this with greater notice’. However, there was no explanation why the club has aligned its payment schedule with the rest of the King Power Group or why there was a delay in informing staff of the news.
It read: “I recognise that the earlier payment has become a valued tradition for many colleagues, and it is regrettable that I have been unable to relay this with greater notice to allow more time for your personal financial planning over the festive period. Please accept my personal apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you.”
