At the same time, we also wondered what former Fratton Park players the club should never have signed? And, here, we produce the results following an overwhelming response.
In fairness, one man's Lee Chapman is another's Paul Merson, so the names put forward via Facebook are entirely subjective. Neverthless, here's the most consisent names that were mentioned when we asked 'what signings should Pompey have stayed well away from?'
Note: The players included are listed in no particular order.

5. Yoshi Kawaguchi

6. John Utaka
The £7m signing from Rennes was in the Pompey side that lifted the FA Cup in 2008 and went on to make 114 appearances for the Blues, scoring 13 goals. Yet many believed he never lived up to his price tag as he struggled for consistency. | Getty Images

7. John Marquis
A costly acquisition by Kenny Jackett in the summer of 2019, Marquis' £1m arrival was greeted with understandable optimism. Signed to deliver Championship football, the striker ultimately failed to get the goals that would lead the Blues to the second tier. 36 in 121 appearances was deemed not good enough for the £1m man who departed for Lincoln for a nominal fee in January 2022. 8. Konstantinos Chalkias
Known for his wild antics and inconsistencies, the Greek stopper managed to play just five games for the Blues during his year-long stay on the south coast. He conceded 11 goals in those five games - including two on his debut against Southampton in the FA Cup. Photo: Phil Cole
