At the same time, we also wondered what former Fratton Park players the club should never have signed? And, here, we produce the results following an overwhelming response.
In fairness, one man's Lee Chapman is another's Paul Merson, so the names put forward via Facebook are entirely subjective. Neverthless, here's the most consisent names that were mentioned when we asked 'what signings should Pompey have stayed well away from?'
Note: The players included are listed in no particular order.

25. Peter Marinello
The striker clearly splits opinion. Was considered one of Pompey's best signings in our other recent poll, but his name kept cropping up for 'worst signing ever made by Pompey' | National World

26. Bryn Morris
Shrewsbury recalled Morris from a successful Wycombe loan spell in order to sell him to promotion-chasing Pompey in January 2019. However, the luckless central midfielder suffered a catalogue of injury problems which significantly impacted his time at Fratton Park. Surprisingly replaced Tom Naylor in the 2020 League One play-off semi-finals against Oxford United. However, never impressed and left on a free transfer in July 2021 following 28 appearances and one goal. | National World Photo: Joe Pepler

27. Michael Smith
Smith endured a difficult 18 months with the Blues, after initially arriving on loan from Swindon in 2016. Pompey fans failed to take to the frontman under Paul Cook, with Smith returning seven goals in 34 league appearances. | Getty Images
