The new boss will be tempted to make a couple of changes because of the above.
But is now the right time to freshen things up?
Saying that, is there ever a good time when those you have called on have so far served you well?
We wait to see what Cowley decides.
In the meantime, though, here’s how we think the Blues will line up at Gresty Road this evening and why...

5. Left-back - Charlie Daniels
With Lee Brown injured, Charlie Daniels is the obvious man to step up to deputise. Scored on Saturday, but did look rusty. Fans have been waiting patiently to see the former Bournemouth favourite prove his Pompey worth. With injuries starting to mount up, now would be a good time to start. Photo: JPIMedia

6. Right-wing - Marcus Harness
Harness was definitely benefitted from the Cowleys' arrival, scoring two in five games. Didn't really get going against Burton but the fact he stayed on the pitch shows the confidence the new management team have in his ability. All too often this season the winger has been sacrificed in games. A big performance is required tonight, though. Photo: JPIMedia

7. Central midfield - Tom Naylor
The captain has looked leggy in recent weeks and it came as no surprise when the was withdrawn early against Burton. All fans would love Naylor to be handed a much-needed rest to a bid to rejuvenate him. But with all upcoming games so important, it's hard to see where the opportunity will arise. The longer you leave it, though, the higher the risks. Photo: JPIMedia

8. Central midfield - Ben Close
Close has taken the chance offered to him by the Cowleys well, after being constantly overlooked this season by Kenny Jackett. While some of those around him might be feeling fatigued after a long season, there's no reason why he can't go from strength to strength the longer he gets minutes under his belt. Photo: JPIMedia
