During that period alongside John Mousinho, he has overseen the Blues capturing the League One title and now enjoying successive seasons in the Championship, currently in 14th spot.
With the Hughes era beginning in October 2022, we’ve taken a look at all 43 permanent signings since them - rating each of them.
NOTE: These do not include Pompey’s 16 loan recruits during that time, which will be examined another day.

13. Terry Devlin - HIT
(68 games, 2 goals) Signed from Northern Ireland side Glentoran in the summer of 2023 as a teenager, Devlin has far exceeded expectations, such has been his rapid development. Energetic, direct, combative and possessing useful versatility, he has occupied a variety of positions, although these days is regarded as a right-back. Has made his Northern Ireland debut since arriving at Fratton park. Photo: Graham Hunt

14. Andre Dozzell - HIT
(51 games, 3 goals) His arrival on a free transfer in August 2024 didn't attract a great reception from supporters - but they have certainly been won over. Having trialled with Sheffield United, it was Fratton Park that Dozzell opted for and, following a slow start, he steadily began to ramp up his performances to surprise the Fratton faithful. No longer underestimated, the ex-Ipswich man is now an integral part of the side. Photo: Graham Hunt

15. Kusini Yengi - HIT
(45 games, 13 goals) Signed from A-League side Western Sydney in July 2023, the striker enjoyed a brilliant maiden season on the south coast, capped by earning Australian international honours for the first time. With 13 goals, he was the Blues' second-top scorer and weighed in with crucial moments at Peterborough and, at Fratton Park, against Bolton and Barnsley. Then it all went wrong in the second season, through injury and form issues, never suggesting he was good enough for the Championship. Released in the summer and now at Aberdeen. Photo: Jason Brown

16. Matt Macey - HIT
(0 games, 0 goals - while permanent) Pompey turned to the goalkeeper after it became clear Ryan Schofield was not equipped to be Will Norris' back-up. Of course, the Blues knew all about the former Arsenal man following a very successful loan spell the previous season. This time round, however, he never played a match, although was the regular number two on the bench. Photo: Jason Brown
