During that period alongside John Mousinho, he has overseen the Blues capturing the League One title and now enjoying successive seasons in the Championship, currently in 14th spot.
With the Hughes era beginning in October 2022, we’ve taken a look at all 43 permanent signings since them - rating each of them.
NOTE: These do not include Pompey’s 16 loan recruits during that time, which will be examined another day.

41. Ben Killip - ON THE FENCE
(5 games, 0 goals) Perhaps unfairly tainted by concerns over his kicking, yet, other than his positioning for Barry Bannan's goal, the arrival from Barnsley has been largely solid. Ironically had a strong debut at Sheffield Wednesday. Even in that Bannan match, he still kept the scoreline down with several excellent stops. Difficult to see where he goes from here, though, now definitely condemned to third-choice keeper. Photo: Stephen Flynn

42. Josh Knight - HIT
(4 games, 0 goals) Pompey paid £1m to bring the central defender back to England from Hannover and it proved to be timely following O'Shaughnessy's subsequent injured. Has slotted into the back four with the minimum of fuss and produced his best display yet in the 1-0 win over Middlesbrough. Comfortable on the ball, driving out from the back, and looks to be a real competitor. Hugely encouraging so far. Photo: Graham Hunt
