During that period alongside John Mousinho, he has overseen the Blues capturing the League One title and now enjoying successive seasons in the Championship, currently in 14th spot.
With the Hughes era beginning in October 2022, we’ve taken a look at all 43 permanent signings since them - rating each of them.
NOTE: These do not include Pompey’s 16 loan recruits during that time, which will be examined another day.

37. Thomas Waddingham - JURY'S STILL OUT
(10 games, 1 goal) Still very early in an injury-hampered Pompey career so far, yet there are definite signs the former Brisbane Roar man could be an canny signing. Scored on his debut at West Brom and a promising full debut at Coventry before a hamstring injury. Very good pre-season with four goals, but is now injured again with a thigh issue. Photo: Simon Roe

38. Hayden Matthews - HIT
(9 games, 0 goals) Finding matches hard to come by this season, but he has still looked an extremely capable player in the Championship during his nine outings to date. Really caught the eye upon his introduction to the side after joining from Sydney FC in January, only for his encouraging first-team run to end with ankle ligament damage against QPR. His time will definitely come. Photo: Simon Roe

39. Cohen Bramall - HIT
(12 games, 0 goals) A short-term signing from Rotherham for an undisclosed fee to provide cover for Connor Ogilvie. In the end, the left-sided player featured 12 times and contributed towards Pompey's Championship survival. Never tore up trees, but his pace and energy usually made a favourable impact in games and many fans liked him. A stop-gap who did well. Photo: Jason Brown

40. Adrian Segecic - HIT
(10 games, 3 goals) Pompey's leading scorer having been bought from Sydney FC in the summer. Made an immediate impact, impressing hugely with his energy, commitment and a wonderful left-foot which has claimed three goals so far from outside the box. Been a breath of fresh air and has a huge future ahead of him, you suspect. Photo: Graham Hunt
