John Mousinho’s side secured a 1-1 draw at the home of Trotters, which now leaves just one point away from promotion heading into Tuesday’s visit of Barnsley.
Abu Kamara opened the scoring on seven minutes for Pompey, only to be cancelled out by Aaron Collins’ header, also in the first half.
It was a dogged defensive display from the visitors, who were largely reliant on counter-attacking to threaten Bolton, yet they held on to claim a point, while denying their promotion rivals the opportunity to close the gap.
And here are our Pompey player ratings...

9. Callum Lang - 7
(Replaced by Christian Saydee on 57 mins) A little over-enthusiastic at first, hence his 14th-minute booking for jumping in on Dacres-Cogley. But settled into it and looked a real threat on the counter-attack. His first match back after five games injured, the former Wigan man was always going to come off around the hour mark. 10. Paddy Lane - 5
(Replaced by Gavin Whyte on 58 mins) Frustratingly, gave the ball away cheaply on several occasions in the first half when the Blues were really under pressure. Chased and worked hard, but made no impact on the ball in attacking situations. Photo: Jason Brown

11. Colby Bishop - 7
(Replaced by Kusini Yengi on 58 mins) Had a fascinating battle with Santos and crucially won several free-kicks to relieve the pressure on the Blues’ defence in the first half. When the Bolton man began to dominate, Mousinho introduced Yengi to shake things up. Photo: Bryn Lennon

12. Portsmouth defender Connor Ogilvie (6) during the EFL Sky Bet League 1 match between Bolton Wanderers and Portsmouth at the University of Bolton Stadium, Bolton, England on 13 April 2024.
