After the Blues’ League One play-off semi-final defeat to Oxford United on penalties, 10 who were previously under permanent contracts moved on to pastures new.
They included the likes of fans’ favourite Christian Burgess, Brett Pitman and Oli Hawkins.
In addition, the loan deals of Cameron McGeehan, Ross McCrorie and Steve Seddon also expired. All three featured in the play-offs.
Meanwhile, Gareth Evans left by mutual consent in September, despite playing in Pompey’s opening three matches of the 2020-21 season.
But how have those who were at PO4 last term started life at their new clubs? We’ve decided to take a look.

9. Luke McGee - Forest Green
The keeper’s departure was inevitable, having not made a Pompey appearance for 18 months. McGee dropped down to League Two for regular minutes, joining ambitious Forest Green. He’s kept four clean sheets in 16 matches as his side sit fourth. Photo: Joe Pepler

10. Cameron McGeehan - KV Oostende
Pompey tried to get the midfielder to join on a permanent basis after spending the second half of the season on loan from Barnsley. The temptation to move to Belgium proved too strong, though. McGeehan’s played in every game for Oostende, scoring two goals in 14 games as they sit 12th in the table. Photo: Joe Pepler

11. Brett Pitman - Swindon
The striker was always going to leave after a period being frozen out and not returning to training for the play-offs. Pitman joined Pompey’s League One rivals but has bagged only three goals in 14 matches for the strugglers so far. Currently out injured. Photo: Joe Pepler

12. Steve Seddon - AFC Wimbledon
The left-back had a superb impact on loan at Pompey and fans were desperate for him to return this season. Despite the Blues being interested earlier in the summer, he eventually moved to AFC Wimbledon. Seddon’s scored one goal in 11 appearances for the 11th-placed Wombles. Photo: Joe Pepler
