After the Blues’ League One play-off semi-final defeat to Oxford United on penalties, 10 who were previously under permanent contracts moved on to pastures new.
They included the likes of fans’ favourite Christian Burgess, Brett Pitman and Oli Hawkins.
In addition, the loan deals of Cameron McGeehan, Ross McCrorie and Steve Seddon also expired. All three featured in the play-offs.
Meanwhile, Gareth Evans left by mutual consent in September, despite playing in Pompey’s opening three matches of the 2020-21 season.
But how have those who were at PO4 last term started life at their new clubs? We’ve decided to take a look.

5. Oli Hawkins - Ipswich
Plenty of fans were split when the big striker was released, with some wanting him to stay and others happy to see him leave. Hawkins got himself a move to promotion-rivals Ipswich where he's scored once in 14 games so far. Photo: Joe Pepler

6. Bradley Lethbridge - Bognor
The third-year scholar departed Pompey after scoring once in three appearances. He joined Bognor on a permanent deal, having had loan spells at the non-league side, and scored four goals in 11 games so far. Photo: Joe Pepler

7. Adam May - Cambridge
Another player whose release was inevitable despite his well-known talent. After a trial at Bristol Rover, May reunited with Gary Whaddock - the man who have the midfielder his Pompey debut - at the Abbey Stadium. May has scored one goal in 16 games for Cambridge, who sit sixth in League Two. Photo: Joe Pepler

8. Ross McCrorie - Aberdeen
Pompey were interested in the Scotland under-21 captain returning on loan but McCrorie wanted to fix himself up with a permanent club. That took him to the Pittodrie where he’s scored two goals in 15 games so far. Manager Derek McInnes has described McCrorie as a ‘Rolls Royce’. Photo: Malcolm Mackenzie
