‘He’s massive’: Exciting Portsmouth dressing room verdict on €6m new-boy Marko Milovanovic after landmark capture

Pompey secured the signing of Marko Milovanovic in a landmark €6m deal from UD Almeria.

Thomas Waddingham believes new signing Marko Milovanovic can become a real threat for Pompey in the Championship next season.

And the Aussie is adamant the 22-year-old’s multi-million pound arrival has now taken John Mousinho’s attack to the next level.

His landmark capture represents the highest outlay on a player at Fratton Park since the Premier League days and more importantly a statement of intent from owners Tornante.

Although the former Alverca frontman is now through the doors, the Fratton faithful will have to wait potentially four weeks to catch a glimpse of the new man.

But as fans wait in anticipation to watch Milovanovic, who is also known as Marezi, in action, Waddingham has already had his first hands-on experience with the Fratton new-boy.

And the 21-year-old has given an exciting insight into what the Fratton faithful can expect from the multi-million pound capture.

The former Brisbane Roar man told The News: ‘He’s massive. He’s a big guy.

‘He was in training on Friday but I haven’t seen too much of him yet but hopefully he does well for us.

‘That’s the main one is that he is so powerful. He can be a real attacking threat for us and can hopefully take us a long way.

‘His addition will hopefully make us better than the last two seasons.

‘The fact we’ve had people like Segs come in, who was very important for us last season, and adding another attacking threat like Marko will definitely add to our attacking force.’

Milovanovic’s capture represents a statement signing in the Blues’ attack, which was short of goals last term.

Colby Bishop tallied three league goals last term, while Makenzie Kirk registered just one strike in his 16 Championship outings.

With Marezi through the door and Kirk recently joining Barnsley on loan earlier this month, Mousinho has admitted he is not looking to add another centre forward to his ranks.

This leaves Milovanovic, Bishop and Waddingham to vye for a starting role in the Championship next season.

And after their goal-scoring difficulties last term, the Aussie believes Pompey now have quality competition in their frontline heading into the new campaign.

‘There’s very good competition now,’ he added.

‘We all have our own different attributes so it’s very important for us and can help the team in all different ways.

‘Looking at them (Marko Milovanovic and Colby Bishop) I can learn from them as they all play differently to me as well.

‘The fact we’re all a bit different can hopefully add a little bit extra to our attack and can become really effective this season.’
