New head coach Danny Cowley has already implemented parts of his football philosophy in a short space of time.
Different formations have been used, alongside a mantra of fast attacking football and playing out from the back.
Some players, let’s be honest, have adapted better than others.
And with Cowley and his brother Nicky earmarked for a long-term Fratton Park stay, they will naturally look to bring in their own players to suit their needs.
But what does that mean for the curreny squad?
Here, Freddie Webb looks at each first-teamer to decide whether they have a future at Fratton Park beyond this season.
9. Jack Whatmough (Centre-back)
Age: 24. Total appearances: 135. Stats this season: 37 appearances, 2 goals, 2 assists Contract Expiry Date: June 2021 Verdict: Whatmough has battled against the odds time and time again at Pompey, and this determination is why he’s performed well this season. His ball-playing capabilities are exceptional and he has proven to be the commander of the Blues defence. The only black mark against him is the two red cards he picked up at a crucial stage of the season. It would be great if he stayedl, but the Gosport ace is more than capable of playing in the Championship - and if offers from a higher league come in, he could be moving to pastures new. 10. Sean Raggett (Centre-back)
Age: 27. Toal appearances: 89. Stats this season: 51 appearances, 5 goals, 0 assists Contract Expiry Date: June 2022 Verdict: Raggett has had a Jekyll & Hyde career for the Blues, being a dominant centre-half one game, to losing focus and making costly errors the next. The centre-back does have a connection to the Cowleys, so he could be relied upon to anchor the defence in the future - which is likely to happen. However, he would need to make less errors and improve his ability to play out from the back. Photo: Joe Pepler
11. Paul Downing (Centre-back)
Age: 29. Total appearances: 21 appearances. Stats this season: 7 appearances, 0 goals, 0 assists Contract Expiry Date: June 2022 Verdict: Downing has been a forgotten man at Pompey for a long time now. He’s featured sporadically throughout his time here, only making one league appearance this season. Deserves a chance to prove himself elsewhere and reignite his career. Photo: Dennis Goodwin
12. Rasmus Nicolaisen (Centre-back)
Age: 24. Total appearances: 27 appearances. Stats this season: 27 appearances, 1 goal, 1 assist Contract Expiry Date: June 2021 Verdict: Adjusting to a whole new league, country and way of life is a great challenge in itself - one which the Danish youth international has thrown himself into. Has steadily improved his defensive and passing game the more he’s played.. FC Midtjylland will look to recall him at the end of his loan and it’s unlikely Nicolaisen will return to Fratton Park next term. Photo: Joe Pepler
