Paddy Lane headed against the bar in the first half and several chances were also missed, but after the break it was a tough battle for John Mousinho’s men.
However, they dug deep to secure their clean sheet in a goalless draw and, with Bolton and Derby both losing, now lead the table by seven points.
Here are our Pompey player ratings...

9. Callum Lang - 6
(Replaced by Myles Peart-Harris on 73 mins) Produced a back-heeled shot from a Sparkes second-half corner which went wide and demonstrated characteristic effort and hard work. Yet other than a first-half header saved by the keeper, had little impact. Photo: Jason Brown

10. Colby Bishop - 7
Found it tough aerially against Jones and when a rare opportunity came his way he drove a shot straight at the keeper in the first half. Interesting to see him paired with Yengi late on in pursuit of a winner. Photo: Bryn Lennon

11. Abu Kamara - 5
A couple of flashes, but, disappointingly, couldn’t get involved. Some good covering defensively at times, but offered very little in attack. Photo: Jason Brown

12. Portsmouth defender Connor Ogilvie (6) during the EFL Sky Bet League 1 match between Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth at The Valley, London, England on 24 February 2024.
