Paddy Lane headed against the bar in the first half and several chances were also missed, but after the break it was a tough battle for John Mousinho’s men.
However, they dug deep to secure their clean sheet in a goalless draw and, with Bolton and Derby both losing, now lead the table by seven points.
Here are our Pompey player ratings...

5. Connor Ogilvie - 7
(Replaced by Jack Sparkes on 61 mins) Sustained a nasty clash of heads with Anderson, but as ever soldiered on with the minimum of fuss. Put a couple of decent balls in from the left during the first-half but prioritised defending and was sound. Photo: Jason Brown

6. Marlon Pack - 7
Helped the team dig in during the second half and put everything into the match. But couldn’t inspire the victory on this occasion. Photo: Jason Brown

7. Owen Moxon - 7
Nearly pulled off one of the goals of the season with a right-footed volley after receiving Pack’s throw-in in the first half, but brilliantly saved. The Blues’ best player in the first half but faded after the break. Photo: Jason Brown

8. Paddy Lane - 5
(Replaced by Kusini Yengi on 73 mins) Headed against the bar in the 16th minute but had a real off-day, barely making an impact. Considering his performances in recent weeks, he’s entitled to a quiet afternoon sometime. Photo: Jason Brown
