But who are the players who’ve shone brightest so far? And who are the men who have failed to come up to scratch to date?
Blues writer Jordan Cross has assessed John Mousinho’s squad, given his view on their performances and rated their efforts to this point in the campaign.

21. Paddy Lane - 8
Pompey fans can now see what the hype was about. The Northern Ireland international has been the undoubted pick of Pompey's wingers this season, with three goals and some classy performances. Still some work to do with his finishing, but an overwhelmingly positive campaign to date. Photo: Jason Brown

22. Gavin Whyte - 5
Fratton career has failed to spark in the manner hoped or anticipated. Came in with a big billing but has yet to settle with a number factors behind that. There's been flashes of undoubted quality - but much more required. Photo: Jason Brown

23. Abu Kamara - 7
Some record for the 20-year-old Norwich loanee to have appeared in every game this term at such a young age. Form has been variable and there's been some unease about that but has powered back with two goals in last two - the Charlton screamer underlining the talent the Londoner possesses. Work on the back foot has been underrated. Photo: Jason Brown

24. Anthony Scully - 5
Such a disappointment so far for the winger who's been hindered by the knee issue. Got proven League One pedigree and still has time to have a significant impact on the promotion charge. Photo: Jason Brown
