But who are the players who’ve shone brightest so far? And who are the men who have failed to come up to scratch to date?
Blues writer Jordan Cross has assessed John Mousinho’s squad, given his view on their performances and rated their efforts to this point in the campaign.

9. Jack Sparkes - 8
Low expectations and a quiet start have long been erased with Sparkes' emergence and now a place as a central figure in John Mousinho's starting XI. The left-back's six assists and four second assists is a mind-boggling return to date, with a noticeable improvement in his defensive work. Photo: Jason Brown

10. Joe Rafferty - 8
In the leading pack when it comes to Pompey's most consistent and impressive performers this term. Has offered everything John Mousinho wants from his full-backs, with the Scouser marauding forward and offering a rich supply line from the right flank, while delivering his defensive duties diligently. 11. Denver Hume - 5
Looked rusty when coming in from the cold against Leyton Orient, though dug in when his side were reduced to 10 men. More Trophy involvement likely with Pompey staff pleased with Hume's attitude, despite being out of favour. Photo: Jason Brown

12. Ryley Towler - 6
Many thought the January arrival would be a mainstay of Mousinho's side this term, with the many himself quite possibly included. It's not worked out that way thanks to the former of others, but Towler's powerful display when taking the armband against Leyton Orient was a reminder of his presence. Could arguably feature more if Shaughnessy moves over after Poole's season-ending injury. Photo: Jason Brown
