An eye-watering 9,000 Pompey fans made the trip to the London Stadium for the Blues’ Carabao Cup first round tie against West Ham on Saturday.

A sea of blue welcomed John Mousinho’s troops onto the pitch on the opening day of the new season, providing a fanstastic backdrop as the visitors went toe-to-toe with their new Championship rivals.

A famous victory looked on the cards for Pompey as Adrian Segecic gave the away side a well-deserved lead in the first half.

However, a Jared Bowen goal on 45 minutes, which was sandwiched between a double from Valentín Castellanos (43 and 50), ensured the large Blues contingent present would head back to the south coast empty-handed.

Next week’s Championship opener against QPR at Fratton Park will now be in their sights.
