The Blues recruitment team will already have a number of potential names in their sights, while being ready for any potential curveballs to present themselves.
In terms of targets, past behaviour is often a fair indication of what can happen in the future.
With that in mind, we’ve looked at past windows and the names who surfaced to see if there’s any potential clues over where Pompey can turn.
Of course, there will be some players linked with Pompey who are lot less credible than others with agents keen to see their clients names out there.

13. Andre Luiz
A name which has already been linked with Pompey ahead of the window. The Brazilian has a whopping £13.1m figure attached to his name, which makes talk of interest from PO4 laughable if remotely accurate. Is an exciting, quick two-footed winger, though, with Sunderland and Norwich the other names linked. | AFP via Getty Images
