'We've had no luck': Desperate search for vet to join Stubbington Ark's team

An RSPCA rescue centre is looking for a vet

An animal rescue centre is urgently looking for a new veterinary surgeon after having “no luck” in finding a replacement.

Stubbington Ark has launched a “deperate” plea for a vet to join the team so they can continue making a difference to animal welfare.

The rescue centre is looking for someone with at least 3 years post-qualification experience and with previous experience in charity or shelter medicine settings.

Kate Luxford, animal centre manager said: "We are in desperate need of a new veterinary surgeon to work alongside our highly experienced senior vet and practice manager, in our vet clinic here at the Stubbington Ark animal rescue centre.

“One of our vets recently left, and we have had no luck in finding a replacement. The need for two vets here at the Ark is vital to ensure we can health check and perform surgeries to as many rescue animals as possible that end up in our care.”

In 2025, the veterinary team at the rescue centre completed 559 health checks, neutered 167 animals, performed 16 dentals, x-rayed 77 animals, and microchipped 116 pets before being adopted.

Kate added: “We have had to outsource some medical procedures to local vets, who we want to thank for their help. However, this is not a practical long term solution, and having our own second vet here at the Ark will allow us to help our animals on site, allowing them to then go up for adoption much quicker."
