Bumper charity event at Red Lion, Stubbington raises £1,405 for Macmillan Cancer Support
A bumper charity event at the Red Lion pub, Stubbington has raised £1,405 for Macmillan Cancer Support, thanks to local people. The event on Tuesday evening was the pub’s biggest fundraising night of the year, where they transformed their popular weekly quiz into a spectacular, special event to support their chosen charity.

Manager, Luke Wilson was thrilled to welcome Gary Parker as their official Guest Quiz Master. Gary is a well-known locally for his charity quizzes, and he made sure that the night was full of fun, laughter and great entertainment, including singing Happy Birthday to those celebrating and asking everyone to join in!
The pub was filled with over 100 people and 23 teams competed for a cash prize of £100. The evening ended with a raffle, with amazing prizes donated by Red Funnel, Pressing Needs, Butser Ancient Farm, Crofton Amateur Dramatics Society (CADS), Sheppard’s Family Butchers, Cuts & Clobber, Costa Coffee and the Red Lion.

Chris Rees, Director of the ABP Southampton Marathon kindly donated a bottle of champagne and vouchers worth £250, donated by On The Water restaurant, raised £230 in an auction following the raffle. Money from scratch cards to win meals and drinks at the pub added to the total raised, together with quiz entry fees of £5 per person.
Manager Luke Wilson said, “We were absolutely delighted to welcome Gary Parker and Judith to host our special Macmillan quiz night. They made the evening such fun and really helped bring everyone together. To raise £1,405 is a fantastic achievement, and every penny will go directly to supporting people affected by cancer. A huge thank you to everyone who came along, donated prizes, and helped make it such a memorable night.”
Gary Parker said, “It was a pleasure to support Luke and the team at the Red Lion. It was nice to see everyone having fun and Golden Slumbers were worthy winners as it was a great score! Raising so much money for Macmillan Cancer Support in one night was wonderful and I know it’s a cause close to many people’s hearts. If we can help more people by holding a quiz and having fun, then it’s a win-win and I’m really happy to help.”
