This comes after a yellow weather warning was previously in place on January 2 for snow and sleet showers across the country with many places seeing snowy showers - but Portsmouth wasn’t one of them.

The weather alert was in place until 12pm on Friday, but the warning was not extended to cover today, causing a surprise for residents when they woke up, with temperatures dropping to -4 degrees in some areas.

Today’s forecast added: “Any early cloud and isolated snow showers clearing east, then most places dry and bright for the remainder of the day, with long sunny spells. Cold. Maximum temperature 2 °C.”
