Car engine ablaze on A27 eastbound at A3(M) Havant Bypass as crews tackle vehicle fire - lane closed

A vehicle fire has broken out on a major dual-carriageway with fire crews deployed to extinguish the blaze.

Personnel from Havant and Cosham fire stations rushed to the scene on the eastbound carriageway of the A27 this morning (February 27). The incident took place within the junction of the A3(M) - Havant Bypass.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) spokesman said reports were made at 9.30am. “The vehicle, on the hard shoulder, was well alight as firefighters arrived, but fortunately no one was injured,” they added.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to extinguish the fire in the engine compartment, as Highways officers managed the traffic around the scene. HIWFRS left the scene shortly after 10am.”

Traffic officers were also deployed to the scene. Traffic was halted for a period, but all lanes have now been reopened. National Highways South East said: “All lanes have reopened on the A27 eastbound within the A3(M) junction following an earlier vehicle fire. Delays clearing well in the area. Have a safe journey.”

The AA Traffic Map reports that there was queueing traffic on the A27 eastbound from A2030 Eastern Road to the A3(M) at junction 5.
