M3 reopens following major closure for "emergency bridge repairs" which resulted in huge delays

The M3 has fully reopened after an “infrastructure defect” resulted in a major closure yesterday.

National Highways reported an “infrastructure defect” on the M3 between junction 13 (Southampton) and 14 (Eastleigh) which caused the closure of three lanes at approximately 10am southbound, also known as westbound.

National Highways South East wrote on X, saying: “The #M3 is now CLOSED westbound between J12 (#Allbrook) and J13 (#Eastleigh) for emergency bridge repairs.

The closure remained in place throughout the day, with drivers facing delays of 50 minutes on top of the usual congestion.

Just before 6am this morning (January 20), National Highways South East confirmed “emergency repairs are complete” and the M3 is now open.
