M27 Junction 10: Next phase of huge road scheme gets underway as new roundabouts start to take shape

New roundabouts are beginning to take shape at M27 Junction 10 as work enters the next phase of one of the area’s biggest road improvement schemes.

With the major underpass move now complete and traffic flowing again, construction teams are turning their attention to reshaping key junctions, including the main M27 Junction 10 roundabout.

Specialist crews are removing sections of concrete and cutting drainage grooves into the surface, allowing water to run off efficiently once the road is finished and reducing the risk of future flooding and damage.

The heavy equipment used during the Christmas underpass move has now been cleared from the site, giving the space needed to begin forming the roundabout.

Work is also progressing at other locations. At the Broadway roundabout, the old road surface is being removed on the southbound side, while drainage improvements continue along the A32 Wickham Road.

At Welborne Approach roundabout, soil is being added to newly formed drainage areas and textured paving is being installed at crossing points to support people with visual impairments.

Around 21,000 cubic metres of material excavated during the underpass works has been placed on Fareham Common.

This will be used to reshape and landscape the area, with further planting planned as part of Welborne Garden Village’s open space works beginning in the spring.

While roadworks and landscaping continue over the coming months, there is still no walking or cycling route to Kiln Road.

That link is due to open in autumn 2026, when new paths across Fareham Common will connect north Fareham with Welborne.

The latest phase follows the completion of a major milestone over the Christmas period, when engineers moved an 8,500-tonne concrete underpass into position during an 11-day closure.

The round-the-clock operation, one of the largest of its kind locally, marked a significant step forward in the wider Welborne Garden Village project.
