M27 closures as work continues on the multi-million pound junction 10 improvements for new eco town

Two lanes are set to be closed overnight on the M27 this week - with a junction closure also in place as part of the multi-million pound Junction 10 upgrade.

Lanes 2 and 3 will be closed on the eastbound carriageway from 9pm on Thursday (February 19) until 6am on Friday (February 20) near the junction to allow for the installation of a new gantry sign.

Hampshire County Council, which is carrying out the works, has said that at least one lane will remain open at all times, and westbound traffic will be unaffected, with the works forming part of the ongoing improvements to M27 Junction 10.

This is to support the ongoing development at Welborne where a 6,000-home eco-town is being created. (For more details see the video embedded in this story)

At the same time the Junction 10 eastbound on‑slip will also be closed to help with the North Hill Junction upgrade scheme which is being led by the developer, Welborne, which is also part of the infrastructure works. A diversion route will be in place.

Meanwhile works have begun by SGN to divert a main gas main which has led to traffic management on the nearby A32 Wickham Road.

The works were originally scheduled to begin on February 23, but they started earlier than planned and began yesterday (February 16), with temporary traffic lights in place day and night. The works have also been extended from two weeks to three weeks to allow the diversion works to be completed safely, the council has added.
