M27 Closure: Live traffic updates as motorway remains closed with early reopening planned
Hefty M27 road closures remain in place today with the council confirming the motorway will be open ahead of schedule.
The motorway has been closed between junctions 9 and 11 since Christmas Eve with the works initially due to be completed by January 4 at 4am.
But, following “meticulous planning” and “round the clock” work, Hampshire County Council has confirmed it will open 24 hours ahead of schedule (January 3).
The closure has been to allow for a key part of a multi-million project which will create an 'all moves' junction, including the construction of a new motorway underpass, three new slip roads, and a new dual carriageway to link the slip roads to the existing road network.
This major step in the project will see a preconstructed underpass created which will be slid into position following the demolition of part of the motorway.
