M27 early reopening "might be possible" as work continues to progress on major junction 10 upgrade
The leader of Hampshire County Council has advised that works are progressing well on the M27 junction 10 improvement scheme with an early reopening “possible”
Nick Adams-King, leader of Hampshire County Council, posted an update on Facebook confirming that the project is “moving at real pace” with the new motorway surface due to be laid shortly.
The motorway has been closed between junctions 9 and 11 since Christmas Eve with the works initially scheduled expected to be completed by January 4 at 4am. While this is still the date that is being worked towards, there is a chance that it will reopen earlier.

Cllr Adams-King said: “ Work on the improvement scheme is moving at real pace, with specialist teams on site day and night. The new motorway surface is due to be laid shortly. This stage relies on the right weather conditions — and thankfully things are looking good so far.
“We’re still on track to reopen the motorway by 4am on Sunday, as planned. An earlier reopening might be possible, but that will depend on how smoothly the next steps go and the outcome of the essential safety checks once surfacing is complete.
“We’ll have a better sense of timings later this week and I will keep you updated every step of the way.”
The project has already reached a number of significant mile-stones, including the completion of Hampshire’s first box slide and an 8,500 tonne cement underpass.
